Samantha Walrod

Canadian painter and collage artist Samantha Walrod creates tactile mixed-media portraits of regional wildlife, such as deer, coyotes, and bears. Still lifes of wilting floral bouquets that conjure themes of decay and the passage of time also appear frequently in her paintings, which layer digital manipulations with pigment and torn scraps of patterned paper as in her work Flower Shadow 7 (2019). Walrod is an MFA graduate from the University of Alberta and frequently exhibits at Newzones gallery. Walrod’s process includes a combination of easel painting, Photoshop, and collaging bits of paper from her extensive collection of snippets.
