Sandy Litchfield
American, b. 1966
Lakeside vistas, ocean waves, and quiet countrysides offer personal moments from Sandy Litchfield’s life in Amherst, Massachusetts, the Adirondacks, and her experiences sailing near Martha’s Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands. Some of these landscapes are pushed to abstraction while others retain a foothold in direct observation. Litchfield received her BFA from the University of Colorado and her MFA from UMass Amherst. She also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been recognized with numerous grants and public commissions, and has been exhibited in many museums including the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, Massachusetts; the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Maine; and the Hunterdon Museum in Clinton, New Jersey. Her exhibitions have been featured in the Brooklyn Rail, the Boston Phoenix, New American Paintings, and the Boston Globe. Litchfield is an Associate Professor at the UMass Department of Architecture and Design.
