Saul Kaminer
Mexican, b. 1952
He was born in Mexico City on July 8, 1952. Between 1970-75 he studied at the National School
of Architecture of the UNAM. He obtained his title of Architect with a thesis on the founding of
the pre-Hispanic cities Teotihuacan, Tula and Tenochtitlán. In 1976 he moved to Paris, where he
stayed for twenty-two years, maintaining a strong contact with Mexico. Doctoral studies at the
Institute of Urbanism of Paris. In Paris, in 1982 he is a founding member of the MAGIA-IMAGEN group composed of eight Latin American artists, which was dissolved in 1992, this group had an
intense relationship with the painter Roberto Matta and was a platform for Latin American art in
Paris, generating common works and texts of reflection.
Since 1972 he has made 65 solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in Mexico, France and
the USA, mainly; from 1978 to 2010, he has participated in more than 165 collective exhibitions
in galleries and museums in Mexico and countries such as France, EU, Nicaragua, Italy, Spain,
England, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Peru, Puerto Rico and
South Korea.
During his artistic career he has received honors such as the honorable mention in the National
Salon of Plastic Arts, Mexico 1982; Artistic Research Grant of the Regional Council of L'Ile de
France 1983; Special mention in the Salon de Vitry, France, 1987; Fortabat Prize, Maison de
L'Amerique Latine (third Edition); and the Pinturerías prize (the art of bullfighting art), Artención
Foundation. His work is part of various public and private collections and has been the subject
of numerous essays
