Se-Yeol Oh
South Korean, b. 1945
The paintings by Oh Se-yeol consist of everyday objects such as human faces and bodies listed numbers , buttons , flowers , and ties . The aim is to "return to pure childhood”. So when you first encounter his work , you often misunderstand that it is a child's painting full of innocence . But if you approach the canvas , you can feel a completely different heavy feeling . The " weight " of time is felt in the traces of paint that has been added countless times for any oil at all , using only oil . This is also the reason for the "crack " that naturally occurs to time . It's like the wrinkles on a person's face . His work has no same painting , no pretense . It resembles the memories of our childhood , when we all stayed in the playground all day and left our mark on the floor with branches .
