Sean Henry: Time Being,
Osborne Samuel

Sean Henry’s sculptures of contemporary figures in casual, everyday clothing, are frozen mid-motion or lost in moments of quiet reflection. First modeling forms in clay, then casting them in bronze or ceramics and painting them in oil, Henry creates figures that resemble three-dimensional paintings, capturing psychological presence through an economy of expression. Often exhibited in public spaces, Henry’s sculptures are palpably realistic but never representational in scale—they are always either larger or smaller than life. Henry says his work is about “the tension between the making and staging of figures that seem to belong to the real world, and the degree to which they echo our experiences and sympathies.”
