The Rio Negro, the world's largest blackwater river, will merge with the muddy Solimões River in the Manaus region, where they form what Brazilians consider the starting point of the Amazon River. Most of the source rivers originate in the Northern Hemisphere. Some of those tributaries originate in Venezuela and Colombia, where the waters come from the northern Andes.
