Biography

Shawna Ankenbrandt’s photographs capture the insouciance and loneliness of modern beach culture, often featuring a single figure whose presence is meant to illustrate humankind’s relation to nature’s vastness. Raised in a landlocked state, Ankenbrandt approaches the ocean and its shoreline from an outsider’s perspective, frequently beautifying and abstracting the sea.
