Photographer and filmmaker Sherman Ong explores the relationship between humans and their surroundings, and ideas of spatial memory. His series have documented the impact of natural phenomena within changing urban landscapes, and the human ability to adapt in these evolving environments. Ong’s images range in style, from kinetic, blurred snapshots depicting passersby riding motor bicycles, to still and psychologically charged compositions of human subjects in landscapes. His “Monsoon” series explores the collective psyche of the inhabitants of Hanoi, as well as how monsoons affect daily life in Southeast Asia.
