Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, aka “Shoplifter,” is obsessed with hair: “The more I am investigating and using hair, the deeper I get into it,” she says. “It has become a hair fetish or an obsession of sorts.” Using both human and synthetic hair, Shoplifter creates sculptures, wall pieces, performances, drawings, and photographs, knitting, weaving, and braiding together masses of it into elaborately patterned, colorful forms. For Shoplifter, hair is symbolic of vanity, a quality which fascinates her and which she explores in all of her work.
