Simon Monk is a British artist (born in 1966). Monk often depicts comic book superheroes, vintage toys, and film characters in his paintings, delving into recent and contemporary popular culture and tapping into themes of nostalgia, memory and myth. Rendering his subject matter on canvas in a hyperrealist fashion, he engages in a time consuming activity that requires a rigorous and sophisticated technical skill that invites the audience to meditate and ponder on the reasoning behind it.
