Stephen Dinsmore paints quotidian subjects—such as suburban landscapes, baseball games, still lifes of everyday objects, sunsets, and interiors—or as the artist describes, “things for which I have great fondness.” Dinsmore’s representational style is characterized by thick and expressive brushwork, and flat shapes with rough edges. “I try to make a painting that has in it at least something of the magic and mystery of the thing; the alchemy; the thing that excites,” Dinsmore explains. In addition to his surroundings, he draws inspiration from Henri Matisse and Richard Diebenkorn.
