Designer Taidgh O’Neill creates furniture inspired by the fractured landscape of Los Angeles. Of his fragmented objects, he says: “I am interested in making things look broken and stable in that brokenness.” As an extremely exacting woodworker, O’Neill creates chairs, tables, and shelves that mirror the geometries and intersecting planes of abstract painting and sculpture. He begins with a vague idea of the work in mind, and allows for errors and improvisation to enter the design. The finished product emerges through a series of calculated responses to errors in the construction process that he leaves foregrounded, amounting to work that navigates a middle ground between design, construction, and fine art.
