Tatjana Doll
German, b. 1970

Tatjana Doll explores the ways in which everyday objects, particularly those associated with transportation and public architecture, reinforce the political and economic status quo. Primarily a painter, Doll works from photographs of urban settings that she transforms into colorful, graphic compositions. The works vary in style, from photorealistic to expressionistic, capturing objects ranging from public signage to Hummers to traffic cones. Her largest paintings are often public installations on the scale of their subjects—trains or signs—replacing the actual objects and drawing attention to their social function.
