Ted Faiers, who studied at the Art Students League of New York and taught at the Memphis College of Art for over 30 years, created a prodigious number of lithographs, paintings, drawings, and woodcuts that spanned numerous genres. A lifelong friend and mentee of the famed painter Will Barnet, Faiers was also influenced by Indian Space Painting, a movement that combined abstract sensibilities with pre-Columbian and Native American philosophies. Over the course of his long career, Fairs created Western landscapes and still lifes, minimalist abstractions, narrative drawings, and paintings with three-dimensional body parts protruding from the canvasses.
