Biography

Terike Haapoja’s practice is characterized by her use of new media in exploring human and non-human relationships, self-reflection, and the subjective interpretation of knowledge of the world. Haapoja has a dual background in art and theater, and employs her understanding of both to create her immersive, dioramic installations. Her works frequently involve both technological and natural elements, like portraits made from ultrasounds of human embryos, or three-dimensional videos of digitally altered landscapes. Thermo-visuals have recently become a recurring means for Haapoja to present biological or scientific occurrences, like the cooling body temperature of animal after death, or the distributions of heat from visitors’ bodies.
