Description
Hermitage 2, St. Petersburg. 2005. Cibachrome print. Signed verso. Edition 1/10. 114 x 144.8 cm (44.8 x 57 in). • Very sought-after, never auctioned work from the artist’s most well-known series • Besides Thomas Ruff and Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth is regarded as the main representative of the Düsseldorf school of photography • Recent solo exhibitions at the following museums: the Haus der Kunst, Munich; the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin; the Guggenheim Bilbao; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Courtesy of Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle, Munich. PROVENANCE: Consigned by Thomas Struth. “Museum visitors … of all races [sic!] and cultures constitute the collective public that, so it seems, pursue a shared activity. But it behaves in such a way that it is not quite clear what comprises this shared activity. They are all looking at paintings, but in such a different way and in such different intensity that one begins to doubt if they are all doing the same.” (Hans Belting, 2005) Called up: November 21, 2020 - ca. 21.17 h +/- 20 min.
