Biography

Mixed-media artist Tilman Hornig’s paintings and sculptures explore themes of decay, destruction, and the integrity of material. Hornig’s practice explodes the boundaries between two- and the three-dimensionality, subjecting industrial materials—glass, wood, and steel—to his paintbrush, as well as destructive gestures like peeling, puncturing, breaking, cracking, carving, and twisting. Inspired by urban landscapes, Hornig’s works poetically evoke the detritus left behind by industrialization.
