"My work is about finding; really, what I do, is see what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance and celebration of the practice. This is my making process." ~ Todd Monaghan
Todd Monaghan, an American Artist based in New York City, sometimes referred to as tm, explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind by flicking, spilling, dripping and scraping it into layered, textural, immersive, multi-level paintings, collages and sculptures.
tm primarily works in black and white, preferring to use gesso, egg shells and acrylic paint. He uses egg shells to give the work texture and depth. tm maintains several sketch books at any given time, constantly works on a collage in the kitchen of his studio space and makes digital NFT sketches on his iPhone when the opportunity presents itself.
tm has no easel, he paints in an unconventional way, pinning his canvases to his studio walls than bringing them to the floor than back to the walls again and then the floor searching to see something new each time. He applies paint by flicking, spilling and dripping it. tm is spontaneous in his movement welcoming chance and experimentation. He creates multi-level immersive works that encourage the viewer to explore the parts as well as the overall whole and their interplay.
tm has exhibited in many international galleries and art fairs including NY, Atlanta, Miami, LA and abroad. His works are in the collections of important private, corporate, and academic patrons.
