Tom Leaver
American, b. 1957
Tom Leaver’s works are painted literally by gloved hand and then brushed with turpentine across the top edge, causing drips and dissolutions of the surface. His imagery appears to be at once dissolving and emerging, or as the artist has noted, “…these paintings are about process, the ritual of painting and are not focused on image. They are about being present with the act of painting and allowing that to direct the work.”
Tom Leaver lives and works in Oakland, while maintaining quite a following here in the state capitol of California. Leaver is a JAYJAY artist who found success in the great beyond---New York---where he has shown regularly for the last two decades, and has many local collectors of his work.
Tom Leaver's work can be found in many private and public collections, including Plaza Five Fifty Five, Kaiser Permanente, and Continental Cablevision, all in Sacramento. Other corporate collections include the US State Department; Swedish RePartners, NY, NY; Ruesch International in Washington, DC; and Lillich and Charles, San Francisco.
