Tony Soulié
French, b. 1955
Tony Soulié, born in 1955, works and lives in Paris.
He studied at the “l’école des Beaux-Arts” and “l’école des Arts Appliqués” in Paris and exposes since 1977.
Tony was also practicing theatre, dance and acrobatics besides photographing and painting.
Sculptor, engraver, painter, poet and nomad by heart Soulié is reworking his photographic impressions in his atelier, creating over these black and white reflections his artwork. Depending on his feelings during the moment of the shot he changes a photo into an abstract colourful and emotional artwork.
Tony Soulié is a globetrotter who is passionate about the world he discovers. Cities, urban areas, nature, landscapes, deserts, animals and people Soulié is fascinated about the world around him. The photo as base is just one small part of the whole. With brushes of paint and varnish, strokes of wax and carborundum Tony is telling us about his sensations, impressions and feelings face to face with nature, urban creations or humanity.
“When I’m paintings I’m not telling the history of a place, I recreate the place, the moment I experienced, my feeling are expressed with colours and movements. That’s the reason why my creations are not showing reality, but my personal point of view.”
The paintings are not the achievement of logic or consideration but the experience of energy and the expression of the artist, Tony Soulié.
