Tracey Snelling

American artist Tracey Snelling is best known for creating hybrid spaces in which she mixes cultural and geographical references and she plays with sizes and media. Through her practice, she translates 'culture into visuals that other cultures can understand', yet she is conscious that, in this process, cultural clashes might happen. Her work is nourished by travels, photos she takes, images gathered from the internet, movies, and literature. Her miniature sculptures of motels and storefronts recall children's passion for acting out all sorts of crazy scenarios with toys, while her life-size recreations of interiors allow the viewer to discover their layered dimension and cultural implications. More recently she has started to combine small scale and a version of the life-size scale in one single space or installation: this way 'the experience of interacting with the subject expands exponentially’.
