Trent Parke
Australian, b. 1971
A leading documentary photographer, Trent Parke is known for his stirring, poetic photos of Australian life. Parke became the first Australian photographer to become a member of Magnum Photos in 2007. He has been awarded several World Press Photo Awards and Gold Lenses by the International Olympic Committee, and his book Dream/Life won second place in the 2000 International Pictures of the Year Award for photography books. In 2003, Parke and his wife and collaborator Narelle Autio traveled nearly 56,000 miles across Australia, photographing the shifting landscapes and diverse cultures and traditions of a rapidly changing country. “Minutes to Midnight,” the resulting body of work, was published as a book and toured the world as an exhibition. Parke was also awarded the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography to support the project.
