Umberto Manzo
Italian
Unmistakable figures in Umberto Manzo’s language are the body and memory, elements that the artist has been investigating since the 1980’s, using heterogeneous materials and techniques such as photographic emulsion, graphite, oils, colours, vegetable glues and wax on supports such as paper or canvas.
In his “memory archives” he layers his drawings and places them in the thickness of the frame, then creating on the surface the outlines of classical herms or profiles of faces, through which the papers re-emerge with infinite narratives.
The works of Umberto Manzo are included in leading, international private collections. Some of his large-scale works have been installed in the Cilea Station of the Naples Metro System and the Naples Capodichino Airport and are now part of the Capodimonte Museum and the Madre Museum collections in Naples.
