Uzi Parnes

Photographer, filmmaker, and multimedia performance artist Uzi Parnes is known for documenting the performers and architectural ruins of downtown New York. He shot myriad photographs of the legendary performance artist Jack Smith (1932-1989), who greatly influenced experimental and gay cinema and Performance art; Parnes captured his theatrically confident persona in photos like Glamour Shot of Jack Smith (1982). In the 1980s Parnes founded and directed the performance club Chandelier with Ela Troyano, with whom he continues to work on such projects as a live film collaboration at 2010 Berlin Film Festival. Parnes also co-wrote and directed plays with Carmelita Tropicana, which incorporated his photographic work as part of multi-media performances.
