Valéria Nascimento

Inspired by the landscape of her native Brazil, Valéria Nascimento creates poetically refined ceramic sculptures of natural forms. Originally trained as an architect, Nascimento evidences this background in certain repetitive sequences and structures in her work. Coral, floral, leaf and wave forms all offer inspiration while a piece such as White Drift (2019) suggests the fluctuating patterns of birds in flight. Nascimento’s delicate, paper thin creations vary in scale from the intimate to the monumental, sometimes encompassing an entire wall. Each piece is made from individually crafted elements which can take months to prepare. Nascimento has worked for luxury brands such as Tiffany and Co., Chanel, and Wedgwood; she also creates bespoke pieces for individual homes.
