Born in 1967 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Valérie Sonnier summons spirits in her drawings made with great virtuosity, super 8 films and highly textured photographs. Her universe, imbued by abstract notions of presence and absence, is made of ghostly apparition within nostalgic architectures.
In this way, Valérie Sonnier evokes not only the memory of places - to pay homage to the lives that have passed through them - but also individual and collective memory. Through her works, she suggests an acerbic discourse on death and sexuality.
She has been a professor of drawing and morphology at the Beaux-arts de Paris since 2003.
She is represented by the Nadja Vilenne gallery in Belgium.
