Walter Bodmer
Swiss, 1903-1973

A founding member of influential Swiss art collectives Gruppe 33 and Allianz, Walter Bodmer painted abstract, geometric worlds of intersecting lines and color planes that resemble impossible architectural diagrams or puzzles of mathematics and symbols. He also extended his abstract preoccupations into wire and metal plate sculpture, and is perhaps best known for his welded wall-hanging reliefs. Over the course of his career he explored a variety of prevalent modernist techniques, beginning with Post-Impressionism and moving towards Synthetic Cubism and eventually Constructivism.
