Wang Wei, who was trained in fresco painting, is known for his uncanny ability to recreate iconic spaces and realize architectural disruptions. Wang was a core member of the Post-sense Sensibility group in the 1990s, where he began to experiment with altering spatial experiences. His recreations are meant to be psychological as well as physical experiences. Wang’s practice looks at construction and labor as a socially and historically significant acts. Some of his most famous works include Historic Residence (2009), in which Wang reconstructed a portion of the private bathroom of Mao Zedong and his wife, but sized to the gallery’s proportions and maintaining the relative scale of the furniture.
