Biography

Xia Xing is a realist painter known for his frank and intimate portrayals of sexuality and eroticism in modern China. Working from photographs, live models, and his imagination, Xia places his subjects in surrealistic environments and references traditional Chinese painting, as well as the portraiture of Renaissance masters. Xia has also done a variety of studies in ink of nudes, erotic scenarios, and same-sex romance, his style revealing the heavy influence of the legacy of French Neoclassicism.
