Biography

Xylor Jane (b 1963 California) creates systematic and enigmatic paintings that, like her numeric sequences, possess deeply spiritual aspects. Her works at first appear as kaleidoscopic optical illusions that are both vertiginous and enchanting, through her use of repeating dots of color, numbers, grids. As the eye adjusts, numerical sequences reveal themselves. Jane privileges color, which serves as code to represent important dates, mathematical sequences, fonts, and creates foreground-background relationships. She translates abstracted and categorized notions of time and emotion into visual matrices. Jane lives and works in Greenfield, MA, and is represented by Canada Gallery in New York City.
