Adrian Schiess creates flat, abstract paintings with highly glossy surfaces. Constructed of aluminum panels layered with digital prints, his works are thickly lacquered and usually displayed on the ground, forcing viewers to move among them, to “become a gesture” and thus a part of the artist’s process. “I do not consider the panels as picture objects. They are things alongside other things. They are paintings on whose glossy surfaces reality is mirrored,” he says. “[…] The work is also shaped by the dialogue with the viewer. This dialogue is open and endless and momentary and fleeting.”
