Von Lintel’s Photograms Travel to Paris
Artsy Editorial
Hungarian artist Agnes Eperjesi creates her work by using all of the tools of the photographer—except for a camera. To create her colorful photograms, she uses found material in place of negatives, placing them under a photographic enlarger in the dark room and inverting their image onto photographic paper. For her source material, she uses the brightly colored plastic wrappers of products imported to Hungary after the fall of the Communist government in 1989, sometimes even incorporating slices of plastic into the final work. Removed from their context and scaled up from their original size, these slivers of everyday ephemera offer the viewer ambiguous blend of beauty and irony.
