About Agnes Murray

Agnes Murray is a master printmaker working in lithography, intaglio, and more recently, monotypes. Her subjects include realist still lifes, portraits, and urban and vernacular architecture that explore the interconnectedness of public spaces and the borderline between public and private. “Two-dimensional representational imagery in my work explores the interplay between surface and illusion of space,” she says. Having begun her career with a series of autobiographical works derived from family snapshots, Murray takes many of her subjects from photographs of places to which she has an emotional attachment. Also interested in the nature of the creative process, she has published two books pairing visual artists with translated works by the Sufi poet Rumi.
