About Alan Bur Johnson

Combining his background in biology and the tools of the laboratory with his multidisciplinary fine art practice, Alan Bur Johnson uses art as a tool to reflect on the human relationship with the natural world. With the eye of an etymologist, he fastens fragmented images to the wall with delicate dissection pins, combining dozens of photographic transparencies to create the swirling, fractured installations of his “Swarms” series or the three-dimensional hybrid insects that make up his “Progeny”. As Johnson describes it: “My work seeks to reacquaint the viewer with the body by addressing that which remains forgotten, feared, or otherwise unwitnessed.”
