Federica Sala on Italy, Identity, and New Possibilities for Design
The work is composed of many layers of red carpeting, which have been cut in the form of the empty spaces between furniture of a room in the artist’s home. Carpeting, thus approaches the theme of space and emptiness, connecting it to its implied potential. The act of measuring and surveying space becomes a way of gaining awareness of that place and of establishing a special relation with it. The use of
carpeting, as a material capable of “absorbing” the signs of
experience, allows the work to remain suspended between the analytical representation of a space and the personal account of a place.
