About Alex Dordoy

Alex Dordoy’s practice concerns the tension between physical forms and their representation as flat images. Although the London-based artist’s interest lies in the translation between the physical world and the digital, his practice is rooted in sculpture, paintings, and prints. In his paintings, he alters found images in Photoshop, exploring their dimensions and textures through filters to produce technologically inflected abstractions of the original images. His prints and sculptures further explore the dimensionality of media, employing the wide range of technologies presently available to expand on the possibilities for images. Though Dordoy is interested in a wide horizon of possibilities, he remains invested in painting. “I feel like everything I make kind of is painting but it doesn’t have to be made with the paint,” the artist has said.
