About Alex Rose

Artist Alex Rose began making art at the age of 13, creating small stone and shell shrines to commemorate his family’s dead pets. Since then he has—in extreme reclusion—prolifically produced and often buried photographs, collages, drawings, and prints, all of a highly personal and obsessive nature. Incorporating amassed objects such as ribbons, books, old newspapers, and butterfly wings, Rose frequently burns or destroys his works in the process of making them. He documents the destruction or reincorporates the objects into future pieces. As one critic remarked, “Each work is an Icaran tale.” Rose, a true outsider artist, was discovered through his former blog, Porcelain Skull.
