The mixed-media compositions of Alic Daniel’s artworks question the idea of legibility versus comprehensibility. The seemingly parallel concepts appear to both interact and be at odds with each other within each of his artworks. This is illustrated through the use of both familiar and new media combinations. The layering of the media and various techniques both add meaning as well as obscure images and messages which could have been otherwise revealed. This meditative technique allows familiar shapes and forms to be present throughout the work.
This 48 inch tall by 60 inch wide artwork is stretched, wired and ready to hang. The sides of the mixed-media artwork are painted. It does not require framing. Born in Ohio, Daniel began pursuing artistic expression through painting at a young age. By studying traditional techniques and experimenting with materials, Daniel realized that the simplicity of a single continuous stroke allowed him to express his mark-making in the most honest way. His “scribbles” act like a dance frozen in time. The emotion and movement is thus captured by the brush.
Daniel’s work is a response to pop-art and the exchange of information in contemporary life. His script style feels universal while maintaining itself as a defining and distinguishing structure unique to his paintings and imagination.
