Window. Becoming South Sudan: Chapter II

About Alinka Echeverria

With her combined training in photography and social anthropology, Alinka Echeverria travels the world, documenting the people who shape and are shaped by religious and political belief systems. Her mid- to large-scale, arresting color photographs reflect her sensitivity toward her subjects, whose stories she wants to tell collaboratively, with their active participation. Echeverria has traveled to Cuba to photograph the now-elderly former revolutionaries, and to South Sudan to capture a cross-section of society during the birth of that republic. In 2010, she completed an award-winning project focused on the annual Christian pilgrimage to Tepeyac, Mexico City—which explores the relationship between icons, miracles, and faith.
