About Allison Reimus
Chicago-based artist Allison Reimus explores “the psychology of the domestic interior” by rendering decorative elements in an abstract fashion. In works like her “Vessels” series, which is based on museum pottery collections, ancient objects are shown without context, becoming universal symbols of the aspirational world of décor and the way we use design to represent ourselves. These paintings recreate the sensuous surfaces of ceramics using acrylic and spray paints, with accents of glitter and gold leaf in simple compositions filled with texture and depth. Meanwhile, her “Greek Key” series calls to mind three-dimensional details from embellished facades, the designs turning into abstraction without additional context to ground them.
