Allyson Monson, ‘Could Have Gone to Boston’, 2017, Elisa Contemporary

Emerging photographer Allyson Monson is one of our new gallery artists. Her creative vision transforms color and ordinary objects into painterly images.

According to Allyson, "Don’t adjust your eyes, this is how I see it. My formal training in interior design has led me down a path that I can not stray from, which is why my work evokes light, texture and color. Interestingly movement has snuck up on me in my work. It keeps me guessing and on my toes. I am always trying to perfect something that requires no perfection.

I see everyday objects differently, beyond the naked eye. My work varies. Some images are clean and crisp and yet I have created depth with the ordinary layers of life. And then very often my images are quite complex, leaving the guesswork up to the observer.

When I am behind the lens I am dissecting. I love to manipulate the camera in nonconventional ways. Very often I am not seeing the final image until I load it. It is those moments that my heart skips a beat, full of joy with what I have created."

Her images are filled with light, movement, texture and color and provides a new perspective on ordinary urban and suburban life.
