Andrew Stevovich
Austrian-American, b. 1948
Follow

Austrian-born figurative painter Andrew Stevovich spent time as a child roaming the halls of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where he was particularly drawn to the Italian Renaissance and Expressionist paintings that would come to inform his work. Stevovich's paintings depict men and women in formal dress in cafes, nightclubs, the cinema, carnivals, and gaming halls. Rendered primarily in oil and pastel, his style is defined by simple, clean forms, vivid color, and impeccably finished surfaces that recall the seminal works of the Renaissance.
