This artwork was named by Nicole. She felt the artwork captured all of her childhood dreams – a queen’s dreams.

Nicole is fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Her condition has affected her confidence and ability to be a sociable nine-year-old girl. Nicole has always loved art, particularly drawing and painting, so when she was first diagnosed with leukaemia, she began expressing her feelings and the stages of her journey through her art. From the first doctor she met, to receiving her diagnosis and even when the treatment made her lose her hair, Nicole found a calmness and an escape in art during the long and difficult treatment and hospital stays. What is truly unique is that Nicole chose to paint and draw with her eyes closed, whilst listening to her favourite music.
Nicole’s wish was inspired by her art; she wished to share her paintings in a professional exhibition and invite her family and friends. On the day of her wish, Nicole’s art was displayed at a beautiful community centre. Her family and friends were invited, along with some special celebrity guests to surprise her, including a well-known TV entertainment show, who came along to interview Nicole on her wish.
Nicole’s wish created some wonderful memories for her and her family. Speaking about her wish, Nicole said, “I can’t believe this is all for me.”"

About Angel Otero

“I’ve always been passionate about painting specifically. That’s what drives me—painting and all the drama that goes with it,” states Angel Otero, who channels that passion into paintings and sculptures layered with directly applied oil paint and the sheets that form when it dries, called oil paint skins. He covers his large-scale canvases with these thick, folding sheets, creating densely textured compositions full of hills and crevices. For his sculptures, he mixes materials like metal and wood with household items and furniture, which he then encrusts with the skins. Otero’s works range from entirely abstract, in his words, “purely gestural,” to semi-representative, incorporating ghostly figures, floral patterns, or evocative phrases. Inspired by his music-filled childhood home and the fiercely independent New York School artists, Otero pursues a bold, iconoclastic vision in all of his work.
