In her porcelain ceramics, Ann Agee merges fine art and utility. She spent two years in a residency at the Kohler Company factory in Wisconsin, watching how toilets and sinks were produced, and she refers to such products and their manufacture in some of her work. Her other inspirations include serving platters and molds used for Victorian-era service ware. Many of her works are mosaic-like assemblages of handmade porcelain platters, held together with a wire armature, which lose any sense of their former functionality. “I kind of like them as memories of something, or as drawings of the possibility of something,” says Agee.
