About Anna Bjerger

Based on extracts from books and manuals bought at thrift shops and yard sales, Anna Bjerger’s paintings re-figure familiar imagery in a transformed context. She is drawn to images and vignettes that blend the anonymous and the familiar, allowing countless narratives to be imagined and configured. "Through painting I am able to shift the hierarchy in the image and bring forward a different version of the recorded instant," she says. "The physicality of the paint, the variable structure of the surface and the focus on dimension serves to intensify the experience of looking."
