Anthony Lister, ‘Untitled’, Julien's Auctions

Anthony Lister’s scratchy, scrawling lines form the basis for his readily identifiable style that is unique to the Brisbane native. The expressive face of the painting reveals an inert tension between figuration and abstraction where the forces of good and evil play out in terse black lines and tightly pursed lips that chaotically form the expansive face. Lister’s control of aerosol to create a painting which resembles a graphite drawing demonstrates his command over the medium.
