About Arne Svenson
Arne Svenson produces photographic portraits informed by an interest in capturing the individuality of his subjects. Svenson is well known for his black-and-white portraits of sock monkeys in the private collection of Ron Warren, who amassed over 1,800 of the handmade figures. The monkeys are classically posed to focus attention on the uniqueness of their features. Influenced by his early life as an educator and therapist for disabled children, Svenson has also portrayed other children’s stuffed animals, such as the worn and discolored bust of a stuffed purple rabbit in Chewed #10, as well as portraits of autistic youths juxtaposed with the emotional triggers that provoke their expressions. Additional subjects explored by Svenson include implements, dissected flowers, and dated specimens of forensic science.
