About Arnold Friedman

Arnold Friedman’s landscapes, nudes, and portraits, painted in soft, cool colors and smooth finishes, are quiet meditations on tone, brushwork, and light. Inspired by Impressionism and the Pointillism of Georges Seurat, Friedman developed his own style of using neat, tight brushstrokes to emphasize color and mood, standing apart in an era more concerned with abstraction and formal experimentation. Late in his career he devoted himself more fully to abstraction, abandoning the brush for a palette knife and incorporating more surface play and broken forms in his paintings.
