About Arthur Polonsky

Arthur Polonsky is an originator of the Boston Expressionist movement, which combined elements of [expressionism‘(/gene/expressionism) and symbolism in esoteric, figurative forms. Polonsky’s work also references poets such as Rilke and Rimbaud. He creates visceral paintings and drawings that are rich with light and color by employing traditional figurative painting techniques. Born in Boston to Russian immigrants, Polonsky was part of a group of artists affiliated with the Boston Museum School in the 1940s. His recent retrospective was aptly titled “The Thief of Light.”
