Aukse Miliukaite, ‘Enter the void’, 2017, The Rooster Gallery

A hallucinogenically bright space balancing between a circus and a nightclub is inhabited by the members of the artist’s family, cultural figures and their works. An allusion to the film in the title of the painting, quotations from works by Tracey Emin, Marc Quinn, and Pere Llobera, and the figure of Pablo Picasso – all that merges into a complex narrative. The artist provokes the viewer into getting involved in the intellectual game and recognizing the cultural references, as well as supplementing them by personal interpretations. Alongside, the work explores a wider range of problems of creative authority and creative influences, with an added autobiographical coating.
